Colby's Partnership for Science Education was established in 1989 with support from external grants and provides extensive support to four school districts in the Waterville area. Year-round activities include conducting workshops for K-8 teachers, purchasing equipment for the Area Resources Center that loans equipment to the four school districts, developing a Web page to assist teachers in finding scientific information, offering Colby courses to high school and junior high school teachers while providing them with substitute teachers for their own classes, hosting field trips to our facilities, visiting K-12 classrooms, providing a resource directory, and offering "faculty on call" to answer questions for teachers and students. Colby faculty also helped train local high school students for the national Science Olympiad of the Mind competition. This group has won the state championship for the past three years and, in 1998, came home with a medal from the national competition. These Partnership programs have had rave reviews from the school districts.
