Recycling and Composting Tips

Dining Halls

  • Take only what you can eat. Food wastes are composted by dining services, however, no waste is even better.
  • Opt for reusable cups & utensils whenever possible.
  • When finished with your meal be sure to remove plastic utensils, napkins, and condiment packaging from your tray; they do not readily compost.

Dormitories
  • Recycle everything you can.
  • When moving out of your room, put reusable items in Colby RESCUE boxes.
  • Buy room supplies in the fall at the annual RESCUE sale.
Academics
  • Buy recycled paper. Look for chlorine-free paper.
  • Ask professors if they will accept duplex printing or electronic submission of assignments.
  • Do not do unnecessary printing
  • Edit on-screen.
Free Time
  • Volunteer for RESCUE.
  • Work with campus organizations and committees to promote recycling and other environmental efforts.
  • Look for employment opportunities in recycling.
  • Submit new ideas to the EAG.
