Student Organizations

Student Art Committee

The Art Committee enriches the visual arts at Colby by mounting annual Student Arts Shows and by hosting visiting speakers and professional artists. The committee works closely with art department faculty and staff, as well as with student publications such as the Pequod.

The Pequod is a student publication which exhibits the creative works of Colby's artists and writers. Each semester, a student panel selects from a large body of material including poetry and prose, as well as drawing, painting, printmaking and photography. Over the course of the semester, bi-weekly readings are held in the Mary-Low Coffeehouse, where writers and artists are given the opportunity to share their work, creating an extended forum for Colby's artistic community. The Pequod accepts work from students working witin academic departments as well students working independently.

Pottery Club

The Pottery Club, temporarily located off the PPD Steam Plant, offers its members unlimited access to clay, pottery wheels, glazes, and kilns. Frequent workshops and private lessons on wheel throwing and hand building are also available. A non-credit pottery class is offered each year during Jan Plan.

Photography Club

Open to all Colby students and faculty, the Photography Club maintains black-and-white and color printing facilities with separate developing and drying rooms.
