Cape Wildlife Project
West Barnstable, MA
Summer 2004
With the help of the Linda K. Cotter Fund, Lauren will be at the
Cape Wildlife Center this summer, in West Barnstable, MA as part of
their Student Externship Program. They use the word extern instead of
intern because volunteers work with the outdoors, taking in injured or
sick wildlife from the Cape Cod area with the ultimate goal of
releasing them back into the wild after successfull treatment and
rehabilitation. The CWC takes in many different types of animals native
to the area. Laurens tasks will include anything from admitting
wildlife to cleaning cages. She will also be learning about all facets
of the veterinary care they do including x-rays and observing surgery.
The CWC has a house where externs can live for a small weekly fee.
Lauren is really excited to do this internship and recommends applying
pretty early since they don't take many people.
