Auditions

First and most important, the audition is fun, brief, painless, and informative for you: it's mostly a chance for you to learn about singing in Chorale as well as for the director to get to know you and your voice.

For the fall 2008 semester, audition dates and times are respectively: Wednesday, September 3, 7:00 - 11:00 PM; Thursday, September 4, 6:30 - 11:00 PM; Friday, September 5, 3:00 - 6:00 PM

You should sign up for a specific ten-minute audition slot:  audition sign-up sheets are posted on the Chorale's section of the bulletin board outside the music department office in Bixler, and will also be available at the Chorale's organizational meeting, which is scheduled for 7:00 PM in Given Auditorium on Wednesday, Sept. 3.  (If there are open audition slots remaining by the time of the Student Activities Fair, you may sign up at the Chorale Table at the Fair.)

Each ten-minute audition will include the following:

  • Vocalization and warm-up exercises, to loosen up your vocal cords and determine your range

  • Other brief vocal patterns to check vocal quality throughout range and determine tonal memory

  • A brief excerpt from the audition piece, which you can learn at the open rehearsal before your audition, sung with piano accompaniment, and also sung in quartet

  • A chance to ask questions and talk about the coming season
