Collegium

Collegium Chamber Singers and Chamber Players, with Colby Dance Theater, S09

The Collegium Musicum are the Early Music Ensembles at Colby, and perform music from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. The core of the group are the Chamber Singers, an ensemble of about sixteen singers with no more than four on a part. The singers rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:30 p.m.  in the acoustically wonderful Lorimer Chapel.  String and wind players may join the the Chamber Players, which explore the instrumental music of the 16th and 17th centuries.  Rehearsals are arranged to fit student schedules.

A candlelight performance

For 2009-10,  Collegium will present two major concerts:  in the Fall we are joined by the Colby Orchestra in a program of music by Purcell and Handel.   For our Spring we will present a concert of music from Spain and Latin America.  In addition, the Chamber Singers will perform at the very popular Service of Carols and Lights in December.
