- Senior standing.
- A GPA in the major of at least 3.25.
- A completed application form and supporting statement.
- Approval of the Department.
Satisfactory completion of at least one chapter by the end of the Fall Semester, and formal approval of the tutor and second reader are a prerequisite for continuing an Honors Project in the Spring Semester.
- Successful completion of the two honors courses, PL483 and PL484.
- Presentation of a substantial written thesis (approximately 50-75 pages, as a guideline), approved by the two readers, and awarded a grade of at least A- by the tutor in consultation with the reader.
- A public presentation of the results of the study.
(Special features of a particular project may necessitate other requirements, which can be worked out between the mentors and the student, and approved by the Department.)
- Successful completion of the Honors Program.
- A GPA of at least 3.25 in the major.
- Approval of the Department Faculty.
- Application deadline: The end of April of the Junior Year. [Under special circumstances (e.g., junior year abroad), applications may be considered as late as the Drop-Add period of the first semester of the senior year.]
- October 1 of the Senior Year: A detailed written calendar of steps toward the completion of the project to be agreed upon by the mentor and student.
- Last day of Final Exams of the first semester of the Senior Year: A detailed tentative outline or prospectus of the project, or sufficient draft text (e.g., a chapter). On the basis of this, approval will be granted or withheld for continuing the Honors project.
- April 1 of Senior Year: A completed first draft of thesis.
- May 1: Final Copy of the thesis.
- No later than the last day of scheduled events: The oral presentation.
All dates are firm. Any changes require the approval of the entire Department.
