In addition to directing the Farnham Writers'
Center, Paula Harrington teaches composition, ELL, and American
literature. Before coming to Colby in 2008, she taught
writing, literature, and American studies at Marymount College of Fordham
University, the University of New England, and the University of California,
Davis. At Marymount Fordham, she also served as director of composition and director
of the writing center. She has substantial experience working with
ELL students there and at UC Davis, where she earned her Ph.D. in English
with a specialization in American literature and a practicum in American studies.
She holds her M.A. in English from San Francisco State University, and
her B.A., magna cum laude, in English and Writing from Columbia
University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She
is also a former journalist, who worked as a newspaper reporter and
columnist for daily papers including the San Francisco Examiner, San
Mateo Times, Hayward Daily Review, and West County Times. Her
research interests include Mark Twain and animal studies. Her article,
"Dawson's Landing: On the Disappearance of Domesticity in a Slave-owning
Town," appeared in the Mark Twain Annual, and her essay, "No
Mongrels Need Apply," in the minnesota review.
Adan Hussain, Assistant Director
Adan Hussain is the Assistant Director of the Colby College Farnham
Writers' Center. During his time time at Colby, he tutored for 3 years
and took part in various activities ranging from Campus Conversations
on Race to the Middle East Lunch Series. He loves to socialize, so he
will be delighted to have anyone to stop by and see him in the Writers'
Center. A proud Posse Alum, hailing from Queens, NYC, he graduated in
2011 with a degree in Mathematical Sciences and two minors in Japanese
and Education. In his free time, he can be found restaurant hopping,
reading a book, or chatting with someone new he met that week. He is
psyched to be a part of the Writers' Center.
Lindsay Alston, '13
Lindsay is a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois
who is majoring in English with a minor in philosophy. She plays field hockey
and sings in Chorale at Colby and loves to laugh, travel, and spend time with
family and friends.

Jess is proud to say that she hails from the north (Bangor). She appreciates honesty and would love to work with you in a productive fashion. She also loves attending music festivals and learning new things. She dreams of leaving New England for the first time.

Melanie Brown, '13
Melanie is an English and psychology double
major hailing from Denver, Colorado. She likes obscure words, video games, bell
peppers, and big windows. She is probably taller than you, so don't try
anything funny. She's also a little embarrassed about how much she enjoys
lolcats, so try not to bring it up in your next session.
Jackson Clark, '12
Jackson is a
junior from Maine who enjoys being outside, playing the guitar, reading, and
writing. He is an English major but might also end up applying to medical
school at some point.
Lauren Fisher, '13
Lauren is a sophomore government major with a
minor in creative writing. She likes events that are themed, Bob's lunch on
Thursdays, birthday cards, summer camp and cream cheese on banana bread--- in
no particular order. When not in the writers' center, she's an avid cuddler. So
swing by for a big, platonic hug and some tutoring!
Veronica Foster, '13
Veronica is a
junior English/WGSS double major with a concentration in creative writing.She is especially fond of Thai food, online
Scrabble, and talking about sex (academically, of course).You may have met her large black puppy
wandering around campus—yes, she has the cutest dog ever.

Jen is a psychology major from Jersey who plays softball at Colby. She enjoys skiing, sunny days by the pond, singing along with bad 90’s music, doodling, and avoiding homework.

Rachel is an
anthropology major who loves words.She's from Maine (but doesn't like blueberries) and is a fan of "Lost,"
chocolate, and all kinds of music.
Nicole Hewes, '12
Nicole is an English and educational studies double major from New Hampshire. She enjoys going to the ocean, playing Scrabble, and baking cookies and cupcakes. She also likes writing and people who come to visit in the Writers' Center!
Lindsay Hylek, '12
Lindsay
is all over the place. In a few words, she is a psychology and international
studies double major, a mango lovah, and a Tim Burton fanatic. She also
overuses the expression "woot woot".
Larissa Lee, '13
Larissa is a sophomore majoring in international
relations and environmental studies with a concentration in policy. She loves
snorkeling, snowboarding, and sunshine. She is an active member of both the
pottery club and outing club and enjoys eating chocolate in the writers'
center.
Madison Louis, '13
Madison
is a sophomore from Massachusetts who loves cheese, bananas, and Pad Thai (even
if they are all put together). She enjoys running through the beautiful Maine
woods and is interested in photography.
Abbott Matthews, '13
Abbott is a government and Latin American studies
major from the small southern town of Wilson, North Carolina. She loves
playing soccer and reading book after book. Although she sorely misses
sweet tea & fried chicken, she has succumbed to some new addictions at
Colby: Foss, Glee, and coffee.
Adam Spierer, '13
Adam
is a biochemistry major from New Hampshire. On campus, he is a member of the
Colby Men's Swim Team and Colby Water Polo Club and is a CA in Mary Low. In his
free time he enjoys sunshine, ice cream, aerobicizing, playing with bunnies,
and drawing up elaborate schemes on how genetically engineered animals can
overtake the domestic pet industry.
Arvia Sutandi, '13
Arvia is your typical wordophile,
often found lurking in the library & helpfully supplying people with those
pesky words that linger just out of reach on the tip of the tongue. She has
never met an essay she couldn't beat into submission. She is currently a
sophomore English and psychology double major. She is usually found at the gym,
Starbucks, on the dance floor, in an art studio, or on Cloud Nine.
Cale Wardell, '13
Cale
is from Lake Forest, IL. When not lost or missing her key card, Cale likes to
play field hockey, eat things that don't have dairy in them, talk really
loudly, bounce while she walks, and watch Planet Earth.
Winsor Wesson, '12
Winsor is a junior English major taking pre-med
classes. He's grown up in a few different places, but he likes to call Maine
home. The idea of movies, (good) books, winter's cold, and traveling keeps him
warm at night.
