BI198 - Ecology of New England
An exploration of New England's past land use and cultural history using ecological theory. Investigates the diversity of and ecological, physiological, and behavioral adaptations of native flora and fauna. Topics such as logging and forest regeneration, Native American land uses practices, whaling, colonial settlement, glacial retreat, berry and maple sugar harvesting, and agriculture. Laboratory will include evaluations of comparative vertebrate anatomy, guest lectures, and field trips to paper mills, local bogs, and whaling and natural history museums. Lecture and laboratory.
