Homework, Quizzes and Finals

Your homework reflects an integrated emphasis on the four essential skills of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each homework is worth 20 points, and must be returned on time for grading.  Late homework will be graded down, one point per day till the third day. Homework more than three days late will be automatically marked down 5 points. For each lesson, you will record a short passage and send it to me via email, your recorded passage will be graded for tones, pronunciation, and fluency, and it is worth 5 points.

We will cover 9 lessons altogether during this semester. We will have two vocabulary quizzes per lesson and a lesson test every two lessons. Vocabulary quizzes are worth 20 points each while lesson tests are worth 120 points each. At the end of the semester, you will be given a two-hour final exam which makes up 200 points.

Group Video Project

We will have a group video project in addition to our regular requirements. You will work in groups writing up a script or a series of mini-scripts based on the Chinese proverb stories we have learned this semester and act the stories out. Group project is worth 100 pts. More information will be given as we go along during the semester.

Attendance and Participation

You will be given 50 points for attendance and participation. Each class missed will result in losing two points automatically. If you miss five classes, you will lose all your attendance points. If you miss seven classes, I will send you a warning notice. If you miss ten classes, you have a failing grade.
