Volunteer Center Staff Expectations

All staff

All Staff Members of the Colby Volunteer Canter are expected to fulfill some shared expectations as they carry out their duties. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining the CVC as his/her exclusive major commitment on campus
  • Spending at least 10 hours per week on Volunteer Center business
  • Attending all required staff and program leader meetings
  • Attending volunteer program meetings as needed
  • Answering CVC-related communication (including email and phone calls) in a timely and professional manner, including during breaks and over the summer
  • Participating in at least one CVC direct-service program on a regular basis
  • Being aware of the most pressing needs of the Greater Waterville Area
While roles are specialized within the organization, teamwork is the ordering principle. Staff members are free to delegate responsibilities as needed.

Assistant Director, One-Time Events Coordinator

The CVC Assistant Director & One-Time Events Coordinator reports to the CVC Director, and is charged with facilitating 1-2 major one-time volunteer events per month during the academic year.

In addition to the general responsibilities of all CVC staff members, the Assistant Director for One-Time Events must also:

  • Be the primary point of contact for all One-Time Event related communications
  • Coordinate logistics for each one time event, including facilities, funding, catering, publicity, and volunteer recruitment
  • Seek new opportunities for one-time events that fulfill the CVC mission, while remaining sensitive to the staffing and budgetary limitations of the office
  • Evaluate each event after the fact according to the standards of the CVC Mission Statement
  • Maintain relationships with community partners who have co-sponsored events in the past

 

Assistant Director, Community Liaison and Publicity Coordinator

The CVC Assistant Director & Community Liaison/Publicity Coordinator reports to the CVC Director. The primary role of this Assistant Director is twofold: (1) to build and maintain sustainable relationships outside the Volunteer Center, and (2) to direct the publicity efforts of the CVC.

In addition to the general responsibilities of all CVC staff members, the Assistant Director & Community Liaison/Publicity Coordinator must also:

  • Regularly attend meetings of other on-campus groups to build volunteer pools and explore the possibility of co-sponsored One-Time Events
  • Regularly attend public meetings in the Waterville community in an effort to maintain an understanding of the Waterville area’s most urgent needs
  • Maintain the weekly CVC Email Newsletter
  • Update the CVC Website to reflect current programming
  • Work closely with the Communications Office to publicize CVC activities both on campus and off
  • Post advertisements for external volunteer opportunities, and coordinate the placement of Colby volunteers at any such site
  • Evaluate the perception of the CVC both on campus and in Waterville, and make recommendations as to how the Volunteer Center can improve its visibility
