Students interested in community service and health care have the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of departments at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit in Waterville. Common responsibilities include attending to medical professional and patient requests, transporting patients, acting as a patient liaison, organizational tasks, etc. This is a great opportunity for pre-health students to gain clinical experince while contributing to the community in a positive and meaningful manner.
The program is highly competitive, and spots are limited; turnaround from the original application to placement is typically one month. Please keep in mind that MaineGeneral Health views this opportunity as an internship, and expects a certain level of professionalism in each volunteer.
Scheduling
Three to four hours one morning or afternoon per week; volunteers are required to attend an orientation and make a minimum of a one semester commitment.
