Lovejoy Visiting Journalists in Residence, David Shribman of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Cindy Skrzycki of Bloomberg News, discussed the the importance of news literacy as citizens become increasingly dependent on digital sources for their news. As traditional print newspapers fail around the country, consumers of 'free' digital news must be critical and learn how to judge the credibility and reliability of what they read online.

Cindy Skrzycki is a regulatory columnist for Bloomberg News and a senior lecturer in the English Department at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Skrzycki covered business and regulatory issues at the Washington Post. She was also an associate business editor at U.S. News & World Report, specializing in transportation issues, and a Washington correspondent for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where she covered the gamut of business issues. She worked in the Washington Bureau of the Fairchild News Service, covering the steel industry, and was a business writer for The Buffalo News. She is the author of The Regulators: The Anonymous Power Brokers Who Shape Your Life.

Born in Buffalo, NY, Skrzycki is an honors graduate of Canisius College where she was editor of the student newspaper, The Griffin, and a member of the Di Gamma Honor Society. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Canisius College. She holds an MA in public affairs and journalism from American University, Washington, DC. Skrzycki is married to David Shribman, the executive editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
