Qainat Khan is a senior at Colby, studying Music and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She has worked as the Arts & Entertainment Editor for the Colby Echo for the past two years. Her experience at the Echo and her interest in cultural studies has made journalism a fascinating area of work and study. She hopes to pursue journalism as a career after graduating from Colby.
Qainat is returning from her Jan Plan abroad in India, where she and a group of Colby students taught students at the Gandhi Ashram elective courses in a range of subjects. Teaching at the Ashram was a rewarding and enlightening experience, and it reminds Qainat why she wants to pursue journalism—to share insights and stories about truly remarkable people and places.
When she is not working on the Echo, Qainat enjoys reading David Foster Wallace (whose writing influenced her own decision to write), playing the piano and cello, and keeping up with the latest in LGBTQ politics and criticism.
