BERNARD KILGORE: native of Indiana and graduate of DePauw University, who first went to work for the Wall Street Journal in the inauspicious month of September, 1929; a journalistic innovator and through whose energy and ingenuity the Wall Street Journal has become a national newspaper serving not the business community but the general public throughout the recipient of the Wells Memorial Key of the professional fraternity, Sigma Delta Chi, and of the Columbia Journalism Award; your achievements are In the highest traditions of your profession, as you have labored to raise standards, to see that news is reported honestly and simply, and to encourage young men and women to answer to this ancient and honorable calling. Colby College is proud to present to you on a most significant day, November 9, which happens to be the birthday of Elijah Parish Lovejoy as well as your own, the Tenth Annual Lovejoy Award.
