CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR GOLDFARB CENTER VISITING FELLOWS

The Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement invites proposals from Colby faculty for the Center’s Visiting Fellows Program.

(1) for the faculty member: a possibility to start or complete a project (e.g., a professional paper or research proposal) with a colleague from another state or country)
(2) for students: an opportunity to hear from, meet and interact with experts and to learn from their work and experience
(3) for the fellow: a chance to work with a colleague, access Colby's library resources, and experience life in a small liberal arts campus

Funding. The Goldfarb Center will offer four or five fellowships for spring 2007, each one for a maximum of $5,000. This amount is expected to cover travel, lodging, and related expenses; decisions on honoraria for Fellows will depend on the program proposed for the Fellow and possible collaboration with others on the campus.

Proposals. Applications should include a discussion of the contributions that the Fellow will make to the campus and a current curriculum vita. Each Fellow program, to be outlined in the proposal, will be expected to include at least one public presentation and close interaction with students in other forums, including but not limited to participating in classes and counseling on research or career opportunities. If the faculty member intends to engage in a research project with the Fellow, it is appropriate to discuss that as well.  All applications should include an indication of dates during the spring semester that would be best for a Fellow’s visit and a detailed budget. In the case of international visitors, the faculty should be aware that he or she and the Fellow will bear the responsibility for obtaining the appropriate U.S. visa.

Proposals for the Goldfarb Center Visiting Fellows Program will be due in early the academic year. They will then be reviewed by the Center's Faculty Steering Committee for recommendations on appointments. However, it is appropriate to begin consulting on possible fellows at any time before the actual deadline.  For questions regarding the program and the budget, please contact Susanna Thompson, Associate Director of the Goldfarb Center.

The review of applications for Fellows who will arrive in the fall of 2009 has already begun; however, the application form is available for reference here.
