General Polices Materials are placed on Reserve for required reading only, rather than for suggested reading, browsing, or for other casual use. To place materials on Reserve, deliver items to the Circulation/Reserve Desk at Miller or the appropriate branch library and fill out the Reserve form available in the libraries or downloaded here in pdf. Include course name, name of faculty member and length of loan – 2 hour, 4 hour, or 1 day. Please list titles as they appear on your syllabus to avoid confusion. Materials needed for the first week of classes should be submitted 2 weeks prior to the beginning of classes. Requests received later will be processed in order of receipt. When adding items to your list, please allow 3-5 days (Monday- Friday) for requests to be processed. All materials submitted for reserve must comply with the United States Copyright Act of 1976 (17 U.S.C. $ 107). The concept of Fair Use is guided by the following factors: - the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
- the nature of the copyrighted work;
- the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole;
- the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
Reserve lists will be inactivated at the end of the semester. Library materials will be returned to the regular circulating stacks. Personal items, books, media, and photocopies will be returned to the instructor. The inactivation function allows us to maintain a list of materials associated with the course reserve, which can be used to re-assemble the list in the future. The list will no longer be displayed to the public until the course becomes active again. Please note that Reserve is a shortened loan period; it is not a booking or scheduling system. If you need a video, e.g. for a showing, please, plan ahead and check it out well in advance. Books Books may include those from Miller, Bixler or the Science library stacks. Personal copies may also be placed on reserve; however, be cautioned to expect wear. The libraries do not accept responsibility for damaged or stolen materials. The library will order new or additional copies of books (consistent with the number of students in the course), but please allow 6 to 8 weeks for their receipt. When ordering, include the course number, and indicate, “rush for reserve” (Link to ordering form) - Textbooks are not ordered for Reserve;
- Course packs may not be placed on Reserve;
- Reference books and materials borrowed through interlibrary loan may not be put on Reserve.
Videos and Audios In addition to library owned items, personal copies of media may be placed on Reserve. We cannot accept off-air taped materials unless accompanied by proof of permission from the copyright holder. The library does not accept responsibility for damaged or stolen materials. Please contact the Art and Music Librarian if you need assistance with streamed audio formats for Reserve. |
