Interlibrary Loan Policy Got Questions? Need Answers? Just Ask!

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service available to Colby students, faculty, and staff in which the library borrows books and microforms, and obtains articles, from other institutions worldwide. Materials owned by Colby or available through NExpress or  Maine Info Net Catalog's request function may not be requested via interlibrary loan unless they are missing.

An ILL form must be filled out for each interlibrary loan item, with as much bibliographic information as possible. If you have incomplete information, ask a reference librarian to help you before submitting the request. It is not necessary to establish which library has the item.

To submit an ILL request
Colby students and faculty must submit interlibrary loan requests online using the ILL Request Form.

Receipt of Materials
You will be notified by e-mail when materials arrive. They will be kept at the Circulation Desk in Miller for pickup. Loan periods and renewal privileges vary according to the policies of the lending library. It is the responsibility of the borrower to note the due date and to return the material promptly.

Colby also loans materials and supplies photocopies to libraries around the world. Requests are accepted electronically via OCLC and through the mail or fax on ALA forms.
