Including Library Instruction in Your Course: A Step-by-Step Guide

•

•
Build library instruction into your syllabus.
Schedule your sessions as soon as possible! The first three weeks of each semester are particularly busy, and most librarians need at least two weeks advance notice to develop a class.

•
Schedule your sessions to fall when students are starting their research.
If it's too early, they'll forget what they've learned; if it's too late, they won't have time to apply it effectively.

•
Instruction preview forms help librarians prepare sessions that will effectively address students' needs. Please deliver completed preview forms to the librarian conducting your session. Download forms here.

•
Attend the instruction session with your class.
Your participation in the instruction session ensures a deeper engagement and a richer experience for your students.

•
Post-instruction feedback is critical in the development of future instruction.  Post-instruction feedback forms should be completed by students one or two weeks before the end of the semester. Please deliver completed feedback forms to the librarian who conducted your session. Download forms here.
