  • The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy Designed as a scholarly dynamic reference work, this electronic encyclopedia of philosophers and topics in philosophy is intended to be responsive to new research.  Each entry is maintained and kept up to date by an expert or group of experts in the field, and all entries and updates are refereed by an editorial board before being made public.  Archived fixed editions created on a quarterly basis may be used for citation.

    Authoritative, updated and revised to include many new topics.

    This and The Oxford Companion to Philosophy (above) are the best single volume encyclopedic dictionaries in the field.
