SPECIAL COLLECTIONS RESERVE / IN LIBRARY USE POLICY

At the discretion of the Special Collections Librarian, a particular item(s) from Special Collections may be placed on temporary reserve at the Miller Library Circulation desk in order to accommodate a patron when Special Collections hours do not provide adequate access to the material.

The procedure is:

1. Prior arrangement with the Special Collections Librarian is required.

2. The reserve privilege will be extended only to members of the Colby community.

3. The material will be reserved for a particular individual (ie not for a group or a class).

4. The material will be placed on the Circulation desk hold shelf for a specified time period (not to exceed three days).

5. Each item will be stored in a sturdy, archival-quality box with handling guidelines posted on the box cover.

6. The patron must leave her/his Colby ID with the Circulation staff each time s/he uses the material.

7. The material will be used in Miller Library. It is not to leave the library at any time.

The reserve option is a privilege. The Special Collections Librarian may withdraw the material from reserve at any time if deemed necessary. Items that are highly unique, rare, or valuable will not be considered for reserve.
