How to become a Volunteer Docent

Each year, the Museum welcomes thousands of visitors—both school children and adults—who view its significant collections of American art, folk art, and contemporary art, and who attend exhibitions, lectures, and art events sponsored by the Museum.

Volunteer docents provide invaluable support for these services. You don’t have to be an expert in art or art history to be a museum docent! You simply have to enjoy learning and sharing your time and talents with children and adults. Museum docents receive training in art history and art education, and enjoy privileges including invitations to art openings, social gatherings and field trips, use of the Colby College Libraries, and free auditing of Colby College classes. Most importantly, museum docents have the opportunity to contribute a valuable service to their community. Training for new docents begins in September.
