This is an introductory course designed to familiarize the student with the fundamental theory and principles of accounting. It introduces the student to the accounting cycle, preparation of financial statements, and accounting concepts and theory. The course will provide a survey of the activities and processes followed by a business firm in the initial recording and eventual usage of financial data. Many of the assigned exercises and problems can be worked out utilizing the General Ledger Software and this will assist the student in appreciating how technology is made use of in the accounting function. The relationship between accounting and the other function areas of the business will be examined. The student should ultimately be able to work with the accounting principles and understand how accounting is used in business decisions.
