Designing a Science Building

A new science building on Colby Green is the next major construction project planned, as the College seeks to provide more and better space for computer science, mathematics, and psychology—all growing majors.

The new building will be located next to the Schair-Swenson-Watson Alumni Center, across the green from the Diamond Building, according to Vice President for Academic Affairs Edward Yeterian.

The three departments are currently in the Mudd Science Building (mathematics and computer science) and Roberts Building (psychology).

Plans are for a 30,000-square-foot building to house faculty offices and student research space, classrooms, a computer laboratory, and informal study and gathering spaces. Yeterian said relocating psychology will also enable the College to move ahead with plans to convert Roberts into residential space.

Test wells for geothermal heating and cooling in the building were drilled in the winter of 2009.
