Students and Colby employees receive a Digest of General Announcements. Only students can post notices on the student digest, and only employees can post notices to other employees. To post a notice click here.
Featured Events Online
A featured events calendar is generated by the Office of Communications (see description). The College's room-scheduling software managed by the Scheduling Office (ext. 4735) generates an internal events calendar. To ensure a correct listing in the calendar, an event sponsor should enter accurate and complete information when booking the room in that system.
Posters and Table Tents
Bulletin boards are designated for posters, and tables in dining halls and the Spa are visible places for notices of upcoming events. The Student Handbook's posting policy explains restrictions (e.g. not on glass surfaces, no duct tape, tacks only on bulletin boards). Table tents may be placed in the dining halls and the Spa after they have been approved by the manager of each dining area.
Webpages
An online description of the event on the sponsoring department's website providing pertinent information is valuable because notices (e-mail and posters) can refer people there for more information.
Personal Contact
Reaching out personally to individuals and groups that have an interest in the topic may be the best way to attract an audience. Having professors urge (or require) students to attend is effective, students say.
Colby Echo and WMHB
The Colby Echo sometimes writes about upcoming events. Pitch your event to editors at echo@colby.edu or ext. 5430. WMHB, Colby community radio, frequently reads a calendar of community events on the air (and on its webcast). E-mail wmhb@colby.edu or call ext. 5451 to have your event included.
Calendar of Public Events
The Office of Communications sends out monthly and weekly calendars of public events to media outlets and to an e-mail list of more than 750 people who have requested notices. For the monthly calendar, information must be received in Communications by the middle of the preceding month (e.g. October 15 for November events).
