The mission of the Colby College Counseling Services is to support the intellectual, emotional and psychological growth of students by providing professional counseling services. These services include confidential individual and group counseling; crisis intervention services; psychiatric consultation for evaluation and medication management; educational outreach programs; and consultation to faculty and staff. Counseling Services implements the tenets of Colby 360 in our work with students by promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to help students to balance academic, emotional and social life in order to take full advantage of their college experience.
While most of our work is with students experiencing difficulty with ordinary life events, we also work with mental disorders ranging from mild to serious. A Counseling Services' staff member is always on call at Colby 24 hours a day when school is in session.
Confidentiality is very carefully observed. Confidentiality Policy requires that we have specific permission from the student if we are to talk with faculty, deans, parents or others about the student. The exception to this is, understandably, if we have reason to believe there is imminent danger to an individual.
