Most major rental car agencies have locations at the Portland Jetport and Bangor International Airport. In Waterville, rental cars are available from Budget Rent-A-Car located on Main Street or Enterprise on Kennedy Memorial Drive. Students should keep in mind that most automobile rental agencies have age restrictions that prohibit many students from renting cars, though the College has negotiated the age restrictions with Budget (providing the student has adequate insurance through personal policies).

Ground transport shuttle service is available to and from most of the major airports in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Because information related to approved vendors changes frequently, the most up to date information can be found on Colby’s Directions Web page. This site maintains a listing of approved vendors and their contact information.

To help students at times other than major breaks from school, the College subsidizes airport shuttle carriers that are on the approved list. Dates the College does NOT subsidize travel are also listed on the above Web site (these dates students often travel in groups and the carriers provide lower rates based on volume travel).

The current subsidy from the College is $40 each way to airports in Portland, Bangor, Boston, and Manchester, or train or bus depots in Portland. Each approved vendor has different prices based on location and will bill the College directly for the subsidy. The College makes no recommendation for a specific vendor, and parents and students are encouraged to fully understand the billing and pricing policies before reserving travel. It is recommended that students make their shuttle reservations at least a week in advance of the peak travel days (those listed on the Web site). In addition, the College recommends keeping the shuttle schedules in mind when booking airline travel so as to minimize waiting time at the airport.
