GENERAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES NOTES:
Obviously, equipment and supplies are a vital component of CER. It is important that everyone takes responsibility for ensuring the that the appropriate supplies are present and in working condition (both fuctioning and clean).

 Please note the following specifics:

• We are required (by the College and the State of Maine) to have certain gear available; this, it is imperative that the minimum stuff laid-out in the inventory sheets is present and maintained.

• It is the responsibility of the rescuer signed in on duty to assure that all of the required gear in his or her pack in present, appropriately clean (or sterilely packaged), functioning and accessable at every call.

• Extra gear may be added per individual's preference, provided that all the required gear is still present and in no way hindered.

• It is ultimately the responsibility of the R1 on duty to ensure the same status of the equipmnt in the Security trucks.

• Any stuff used while on duty is to be cleaned/replaced by the crew who worked the call. It is the crew's responsibility to ensure that all gear is ready for another call.

• Each rescuer is to be familiar with the function and location of the gear used by CER before signing-in on duty.

• Reqardless of pack inventories, it is recommended that each rescuer look through the pack he or she wil be carrying that night to ensure that everything is okay. This does not count as a pack inventory.

• Please be careful with our stuff - some of it is fragile and expensive - it gets a lot of use and abuse.

• Note that the 24-hour building key-cards and radios are desirable, so be conscientious so that they do not get stolen.

• Please document stuff in teh log/on the whiteboard in the office. Fill out incident reports as necessary.

• Replacement gear is available on the shelves in the office; additional gear (extras and over-stock) is also in the closet. Contact an R1 to get access to the closet. >

PACKS:

CER uses 5 different pack set-ups. The Orange R2 and R3 packs are carried by rescuers to calls and contain the majority of our equipment. They are identical to one another, merely a way to staff 2 rescuers simultainiously. The R1 pack is a stripped-down Orange pack to be carried by the R1. It's smaller then the Orange packs because R1's usually run more often. There must be at least one Orange pack in use in order for CER to be in service (so, if an R1 is running without an R2 or R3, he or she must carry an Orange pack). In the Security truck, there is also a Blue Pack, and Green O2 Duffel, an AED and a mechanical suction unit. The Blue Pack is set-up as a major trauma bag and also contains some other, assorted gear (like x-large and pediatric BP cuffs and an OB kit). The Green O2 Duffel contains, suprise suprise, a D-Cylender of oxygen, O2 supplies and other airway maintainance equipment (blub suction, BVM, etc). All of this equipment is available at every call. Keep in mind that it all (except the AED) belongs to CER and is entirely CER's responsabillity, Security is merely kind enough to transport it for us. Last but not least is the Yellow Events bag, which is set-up specifically to cover events (as the name implies). It contains a lot of the same stuff as the Orange packs, but has more trauma and first-aid supplies.

The duty packs (the R1, R2 and R3 packs) need to be inventoried once a week, the equipment in the Security trucks needs to be inventories at least once a month, the trauma pack should be checked each time before it is used >

NOTES ABOUT PACK INVENTORIES

RADIOS:

CER uses Motorola HT-1000 portable two-way radios with 36-hour batteries.

• These radios may not be very fancy, but their damned-near indestructible (trust me, I've tried). However, they are expensive and used continuously throughout the school year, so please take extra care when using them and treat them carefully.

• Each member of CER is to be familiar and comfortable with the use and operation of the radios before going on duty.

• Each radio is the responsibility of the rescuer signed in on duty (the radios are numbered on the back, where the battery attaches).

• Any lost, stolen, malfunctioning or broken radios should be reported to the Equipment/Supplies officer or the Director immediately.

• Radios are only to be used for official CER purposes by personnel signed-in on duty. Any misuse of CER radios will not be tolerated.

• When signing in, each member should put a spare battery in the rescue-pack, but please make sure that every battery taken from the office is accounted for on the sign in sheet (the batteries are numbered where they attach to the radio).

• At each handoff a test page should be done by Security Dispatch (Central) to ensure the radio equipment is functioning properly.

The radio must be on Channel 2 in order to receive CER pages.

• CER uses the same radio channel as Colby Security. be considerate of Colby Security and do not broadcast their radio traffic (leave your radio on "scan" mode) in public places.

• Please take extra care in the radio traffic used for both the sake of CER and of Colby Security - there are universal standards in radio traffic; CER and Colby Security are no exception. Never state a patient's name over the radio

• A page-tone will be issued for CER calls.

• CER radios are for offical use only. Personal or misuse of radio will not be tolerated. Do not allow friends or other non-CER personnel play with the radio, or leave the radio in a place where it could be used by non-CER people, to minimize unnecessary radio traffic.
