The Alcohol Scene at Colby

Alcohol and binge drinking are well-documented problems for colleges and universities nationwide. The CARE Committee (Colby's Alcohol Research and Education) has come up with the following statistics regarding alcohol use at Colby College *:

  • 12% of Colby students identify themselves as nondrinkers.
  • The typical Colby student consumes approximately 4 alcoholic drinks per drinking
  • occasion.
  • 53% of Colby students drink 5 or fewer alcoholic drinks per drinking occasion.
  • 69% of Colby students are interested in participating in nonalcoholic social programming.

There is a misperception at Colby that everybody at the College abuses alcohol regularly. The above statistics indicate otherwise. If you choose to drink, please drink responsibly like the majority of your peers. If you make the choice not to drink or to drink infrequently, you have plenty of company at Colby.
