Visiting Assistant Professor in Music History

The Colby College Department of Music invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in music history for the 2021-22 academic year. The successful candidate will join a small, active, and highly collaborative department and will have responsibilities that include teaching our Introduction to Music class, two courses in the music history sequence, and an elective open to both majors and non-majors. The department especially welcomes applications from candidates with a record of previous college teaching and the ability to offer an elective course in one of the following areas: music in film, jazz history or theory, American musical theater or non-Western music history/theory. Completed Ph.D. or ABD preferred.

Include a cover letter outlining interests and specific qualifications for the position, a CV, three confidential letters of recommendation and a statement of teaching philosophy that should include evidence of a commitment to the value of diversity and experience with inclusive teaching. The department would also appreciate a list of the candidate’s ideas for 2-3 possible elective offerings that would appeal to a broad range of students. (Please include a brief description of each course and how it might contribute to a rigorous music curriculum in a liberal arts setting.)
