Fiscal Year/20 Hours per Week in the Olin Science Library
Academic Year/17.5 Hours per Week in the Miller Library
(Additional summer hours may be possible depending on approval)

The Library Assistant III reports to the Science Librarian for responsibilities in the Science Library, and to the Circulation Supervisor for responsibilities in Miller. Evaluation of job performance will be done by the Science Librarian in consultation with the Circulation Supervisor. Schedule is subject to change depending on the academic calendar and vacation schedule of supervisor. Hours of work will include one evening a week in the Miller Library.

Science: The position is designed to provide backup for the professional librarian in the librarian’s absence, in addition to being responsible for specific areas of day-to-day operations. The overriding principle is to present a pleasant, efficient, and responsive service to our patrons (faculty and students). This position helps to maintain general branch library operations, assist in aspects of collection management, circulation, student supervision and training, reserve processing, and catalog maintenance. Miller: The Library Assistant III is a member of the Circulation and Reserves team and shares many of the tasks and responsibilities of providing excellent service at a busy public desk, The position requires excellent public service and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and professionally with students, faculty and the public. The library assistant has a strong role in training and supervision of the department’s student staff. The job entails extensive work with computerized library systems.

Qualifications include: High school degree required, post-secondary education preferred; prior library experience is essential, experience with computerized library systems and general branch library operations strongly preferred; extensive computer skills are necessary with a willingness to learn new programs; previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred; excellent communication skills are necessary, must have attention to detail and good organizational skills.
