Custodian Specialist
Physical Plant Department
Part-Time Position with Benefits

Schedule is every Saturday and Sunday from 4:30 am to 12:30 pm
Additional 4 hours scheduled for one evening weeknight

A specialist will be trained in all specialties of Light Duty, Restroom, Utility and Vacuum. This is a part-time position with benefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specialty: Light Duty

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Empty trash, recycling bins and reinstall liners
  • Clean public telephones, chalk trays and ashtrays
  • Dust all appropriate horizontal and vertical surfaces- high and low
  • Pick up paper clips, paper, etc. from floor
  • Spot clean surfaces-door, push plates, and glass
  • Spot clean wall and fixtures (marks and dirt)
  • Cross train in the areas of the Restroom, Vacuum, and Utility Specialists

Specialty: Restroom

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Refill toilet tissues
  • Refill all other dispensers
  • Empty restroom trash
  • Clean and disinfect all fixtures, mirrors, and drinking fountains
  • Spot clean and disinfect partitions and doors
  • Sweep and mop floor
  • Turn out lights
  • Cross train in the areas of the Light Duty, Vacuum and Utility Specialists

Specialty: Utility

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Clean stairs and vacuum
  • Clean glass
  • Polish brass
  • Pick up trash on specified floors
  • Spot clean carpet
  • Clean first impression areas
  • Clean high visibility carpet
  • Haul trash to dumpster
  • Snow removal
  • Cross train in the areas of the Restroom, Vacuum, and Light Duty Specialists

Specialty: Vacuum

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Check trash can and vacuum under in each office
  • Vacuum all traffic areas
  • Spot vacuum all other areas
  • Vacuum crumbs, ashes, and other spills on furniture
  • Reposition all furniture correctly
  • Turn out lights
  • Secure area
  • Cross train in the areas of the Restroom, Utility and Light Duty Specialists

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School degree preferred
  • Previous experience desired
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and procedures is required
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • The ability to work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community is necessary
  • Excellent customer service skills are necessary
  • Must have the ability to work as a member of a team
  • Dependability and initiative required
  • If driving is required, must have a valid Driver’s License and eligible to be certified by the College’s automobile insurance carrier

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

General indoor and outdoor campus environment. Duties require that employee interact with faculty, staff, students and visitors.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Position involves frequent movement, including walking, standing, bending, twisting, shoveling, reaching and lifting. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
