STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE


The Office of Financial Services is seeking an experienced candidate to join their Student Financial Services group. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Financial Services and will share in providing financial services for students. This position is non-exempt with duties requiring occasional work outside of the regular office hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide full back up of cashier functions including student account payments, department deposits and disbursements as well as Blackboard transactions
• Review online banking transactions to confirm daily deposits, review lockbox detail when necessary and process returned items if present
• Prepare and post billing and miscellaneous student account entries to both the subsidiary and general ledger including but not limited to semester charges, late fees, parking and deans fines
• Reconcile a variety of aid and payment transactions
• Create and post daily transaction files for ACH, lockbox and wire payments
• Proof both student account statements and financial aid award letters and process both paper and electronic documents
• Maintain a solid working knowledge of federal aid regulations, being familiar with online tools to reference materials and regulations as needed
• Share in the collection process of accounts receivable balances
• Maintain written procedures as tasks change
• Review financial aid applications for completeness and enter appropriate contacts in database
• Assist with the monitoring of pending aid and accounts receivable performing follow up when needed
• Provide required federal loan notifications to students and parents
• Provide back up for department email and 800 number calls
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A High School degree required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
• A minimum of one year prior banking, accounting or related financial experience
• Extensive computer skills, experience using word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, email and the Internet, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as mail and email merge procedures
• Proven capability to balance multiple priorities successfully
• Working knowledge of business English, proofreading, and spelling skills
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information
• Personable, accurate, and extremely attentive to detail
• Talent diffusing challenging customer contacts with tact and poise
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively with members of a diverse community
• Initiative in assuming responsibilities
• Exceptional customer service with a minimum of two years’ experience with expertise in a fast-paced setting
• Ability to learn and adapt to changing federal, state, and institutional rules, regulations and policies
• Prior work experience in a college setting with students and parents of various educational, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds in a professional and helpful manner is preferred
• Familiarity with basic financial aid and database information systems is preferred

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
General office and campus environment. Employee will interact with students, parents, other administrative offices, faculty and staff, alumni, donors, and external groups.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting and occasional lifting required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
