- Connect an ethernet cable to your computer. Plug the other end into the jack in the communications box in your room. (An ethernet jack looks like an extra-wide phone jack)
- Turn on your computer.
- Click Start -> Run
- Type inetwiz
- Click OK. The Internet Connection Wizard Screen will start.
- Select - Connect using my local area network (LAN). Click Next.
- Check - Automatic discovery of proxy server [recommended]. Uncheck everything else. Click Next.
- Select - No to setup an Internet mail account. Click Next. Click Finish.
- Note to DSL/home users - Some services you might use at home change your settings in such a way that your system does NOT automatically recognize your Colby on-campus configuration when you return. If this happens, try the following:

- Right click on My Network Places on the desktop -> Properties.
- Right-click on Local Area Connection -> Properties
- On the General tab, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- Click Properties
- Select - Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
- Click Ok twice.
If you still cannot connect to the network try the following:

- Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
- Type ipconfig /renew
