Do not run an IMAP client and a POP client at the same time!! You can use both POP and IMAP to read your e-mail, but not at the same time! You maycorrupt your mailbox if you have a POP client automatically checking your e-mail at the same time you are using webmail.
Keep your INBOX lean and mean You will have faster e-mail check times if your mailbox is small or (ideally) empty. Save important messages that you need to deal with in the near future to an "in progress" folder or the like, and get them out of your INBOX. Delete spam and other junk you don't care about. Save messages with large attachments to other folders.
Use SSL to encrypt POP or IMAP traffic SSL provides over-the-wire encryption of your mail downloads from the Colby mail server to your e-mail client. SSL will be mandatory for POP and IMAP in the near future.
