File Servers - Access and Details

ITS provides file services for on-campus and VPN-based access to course data, department shares, personal use storage, and software.

Software here is freely available to Colby faculty, staff, and students via on-campus license servers or on-campus software that is metered on a per-user basis via the KeyServer (restricted to authenticated access) or other license services. Some software may also be freeware available to any user.

File storage space is available for Faculty, Staff and Students and is accessible by following the instructions below.  There is also file storage space available at the department/course level, please contact the Support Center at 4222 for more information.

 
Accessing Software, Department or Personal Folders - Windows 7                  (round Start button)
  1. Click on Start Button.
  2. Type \\colby.edu\MyFiles\
  3. Type your Colby user name(Colby e-mail with @colby.edu) and your password.
  4. A Window appears with Software, Department and Personal Folders.
            + Students have to double click on the folder corresponding to the first letter of their Colby username.
  5. Double click on the folder you want to access.

Accessing Software, Department or Personal Folders - Windows XP  (rectangular Start button)
  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run
  2. Type \\colby.edu\MyFiles\
  3. Type your Colby user name(Colby e-mail with @colby.edu) and your password.
  4. A Window appears with Software, Department and Personal Folders
             + Students have to double click on the folder corresponding to the first letter of their Colby username.
  5. Double click on the folder you want to access.

Accessing Software, Department or Personal Folders - Macintosh
  1. On the Menu Bar choose Go > Connect to Server
  2. For Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Type smb://files.colby.edu/MacFiles 
  3. For Mac OS 10.7 and 10.8, (Lion) , Type smb://colby.edu/MyFiles
  4. Type your Colby username (Colby e-mail with @colby.edu) and your password.
  5. A Window appears with folders you can access.
               +  Students have to double click on the folder corresponding to the letter of their Colby username
  6. Double click on the folder you want.
