Windows XP - Backing Up Your Workstation via DLO

Starting summer 2006, many Windows computers will be using Symantec NetBackup Desktop Agent (DLO) as the backup software application.

Note: Files and folders that do not require a backup should be placed on the D drive in a folder called Not Backed Up - folder name must match exactly!

 
 
Accessing Symantec NetBackup Desktop Agent (DLO)
  • In the Notification Area of the Taskbar, you should see the DLO logo
    OR Start > Programs > Symantec > Symantec Netbackup Desktop Agent
  • Double click the DLO client logo

Checking for Successful Backup
  • On the left-hand pane, click Views > History
  • History log will display the last several backups and if each completed
    • Note - Yellow exclamation mark indicates that files were in use when backup occurred

Backup Status
  • On the left-hand pane, click Views > Status
  • The right-hand pane will display the date and time for the next scheduled backup

  • To set your own schedule, on the left-hand pane, click Tools > Settings
  • Click the Schedule tab
  • Click the pull-down to select "Use custom schedule"
  • Select "According to a schedule"
  • Click Modify and set the day and time
  • Click OK

Restoring from Backup
  • On the left-hand pane, click View > Restore
  • On the right-hand pane, click the + symbol to locate the file needed to be restored
  • Click to select the file (a check mark will be displayed)
  • Click Restore

  • Choose the location where the file is to be restored
    • Note: If restoring to the same location, choose Do not overwrite
  • Click OK 
  • Once the restore has completed, the file will be found at the selected location
