To the Colby Community,
I'm writing today to bring you an update on the search for Colby's next president. While recruiting continues, I am pleased to report that the committee is evaluating a number of candidates whose experience and qualities dovetail with Colby's needs. Of course there is a great deal of work before us, but I am encouraged by the process so far and confident of an excellent outcome for the College.
The feedback our candidates are sharing in their letters and offering to our consultants at Storbeck/Pimentel confirms what we believe to be true - that Colby is held in very high regard in the world, both inside and outside of higher education. The achievements of the Colby community are noted very far and very widely, as these candidates attest, and the opportunity to see the College as others see it is an uplifting part of the committee's work.
As I mentioned in an earlier note, communication about the search will largely go silent in this evaluative period, as there won't be many updates we can offer. I also mentioned that the survey we put into the field would close, which it has, and that two lines of electronic communication will remain open: the comment box on the search website (www.colby.edu/presidentialsearch) and the email address presidential.search@colby.edu. You also may write to the committee in care of Sally Baker at 4600 Mayflower Hill/Waterville, ME/04901.
The committee understands the enormous responsibility we are privileged to hold, and we are grateful for your trust and support as our deliberations continue.
Sincerely,
Michael Gordon '66
Chair, Presidential Search Committee
