At Colby, visitors may take advantage of our fitness center, sauna, indoor pool, squash courts, outdoor tennis courts, and an all-weather eight-lane track. We have miles of walking and cross-country running trails that wind through the wooded areas of our 714-acre campus.
Our state-of-the-art fitness center, with selectorized and free-weight equipment, is open and monitored for on-campus registrants and family members over 16 years of age. The College has five squash courts and 10 all-weather outdoor tennis courts. Swimmers will enjoy the indoor swimming pool as well as the facilities at the Colby-Hume Center. Joggers and walkers may begin their exercise on campus paths, continue on Colby's cross-country trails, and explore popular routes throughout the surrounding area.
A world-class art museum with works by many famous artists awaits the visitor. Guided tours are available by appointment.
In the morning, the College operates a recreation program for children ages 6-12 and provides a play school for toilet-trained tots ages 2-5 living on campus.
There are many off-campus activities awaiting the visitor to Colby, too. Within an hour's drive you can find great sandy beaches like Popham and Reid State Park, shopping opportunities in the dozens of outlet stores in Freeport (home to the famous L.L. Bean, which never closes), great hiking and whitewater rafting in the mountains to our north and west, and lighthouse or whale-watch cruises out of Camden, Boothbay, and Rockland harbors. For many, the highlight of a trip to Maine is a visit to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island. If you plan to go to Acadia, we suggest booking reservations early, as hotels and other accommodations fill up quickly.
The facilities at Colby's lakeside property, the Colby-Hume Center on nearby Snow Pond in the Belgrade Lakes chain, are open to all participants. The center, located about 7 miles from campus, offers fine swimming, croquet, horseshoes, picnic areas, and bathhouses.
When you arrive at Colby, please visit our information and registration area, where you will find a knowledgeable staff and many brochures and pamphlets outlining much of what there is to see and do at Colby and in Maine.
