Call for Proposals Cultural Events Committee (CEC) Mission
The Cultural Events Committee (CEC) promotes cultural enrichment/understanding and meaningful cross-cultural fertilization of ideas as a way to better our community. We welcome proposals that have the potential to meet these goals.
The Cultural Events Committee considers proposals from student groups, academic programs, faculty, and staff, for events that are open to the college as a whole. Such events have historically included guest lectures, performances, readings, meals, and other types of programming, including those hosted by historically marginalized groups. In particular the CEC encourages proposals that advance the goals of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative (https://www.colby.edu/diversity/).
Guidelines for Proposals. - Proposals should be submitted as early as possible, but no later than two
weeks before the event. The CEC will not sponsor events after they have occurred. - The suggested maximum request is $2500. Larger requests of exceptional community impact may also be considered. No request is too small to be considered.
- When necessary, preference will be given to proposals based on 1) the likely reach of the event among the Colby community; 2) the degree to which the event aligns with the Committee’s mission; 3) the availability of alternative funding sources for the event organizers; 4) whether the event is a special program not supported by an academic department or unit; and 5) whether the event can augment other programming.
- Cultural Events typically co-sponsors the events. Please do not send in a request where the whole cost of your event will be billed to the Cultural Events Committee, as the request will be returned to you, and the chair of the committee will ask you to find other parties on campus on board to support the event. In almost every case, there is a likely "other" partner for your event, and you need to make a request of that campus entity. (or those campus entities) as well. Of course, we will make exceptions when there is no reasonable other partner on campus.
