First-Year Seminars / Wellness Program / AlcoholEdu

Students must attend evening lectures offered for all first-year and new transfer students as part of the extended orientation called the First-Year Seminars. A variety of topics that the College has identified as fundamental health concerns for the college years will be covered.

As part of the extended orientation called the First-Year Seminars (FYS), all new students must attend dinner/lectures and complete the AlcoholEdu program noted below. A variety of topics are covered which the College has identified as fundamental health concerns for students. The purpose of the program is to encourage and assist in the development of responsibility for one’s own lifestyle through programs centered on mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual fitness. Meeting this graduation requirement, which is certified by the Health Center, does not earn academic credit hours.

In order to register for classes in their second year:

  • First-year students must have attended four dinner/lectures in the first year and completed AlcoholEdu
  • Mid-year entrants must attend three lectures, in addition to completing AlcoholEdu
  • Transfer students have the first two semesters at Colby to attend four lectures, in addition to completing AlcoholEdu
