January Program/Jan Plan The January Program, or Jan Plan, occurs between winter recess and the second semester. It offers many options different from those of a regular academic semester and frees students from the competing demands of an orthodox curriculum. It can be as valuable or exciting an experience as students make it. To be eligible for graduation, each student must complete three January Programs if in residence for seven or more semesters, or two if in residence for six or fewer semesters. (Students participating in CBB programs during the spring semester are exempt from one January Program.) Four Jan Plan course options are available. Courses offered for credit are ordinarily graded in the same manner as semester courses. Non-credit courses may be experimental or offered by experts in non-traditional fields and are not included in the regular curriculum. These are graded honors, pass, or fail. Independent study courses may be taken under a variety of credit options. Internships, usually off campus, may be done for "transcript notation" which carries no academic credit but fulfills a Jan Plan obligation. Registration for Jan Plan is in October. Students may not register for more than one Jan Plan each year. For complete details, rules, and regulations regarding Jan Plan, students should consult the course catalogue or discuss their plans with their faculty advisor. No refunds are made for students who elect not to do an on-campus Jan Plan. |
