dosoffice@colby.edu www.colby.edu/dos/ The Office of the Dean of Students provides services in residential life, housing, student activities, academic advising, multicultural affairs, international affairs, and personal counseling. Through a 24-hour on-call program, one of the professional members of the staff is available to assist students and parents at any hour. Along, with Health and Counseling Services and the College’s chaplains, the Office of the Dean of Students is part of Colby’s Student Support Team, which assists students with academic, emotional, physical, or practical problems that may arise during the college years.
As part of Colby’s Student Support Team, the office’s departmental objectives are:
- to provide a safe, healthy environment in which students study, learn, and grow
- to support the intellectual life of the campus
- to provide a residential life program that offers opportunities for community building and student-faculty interaction
- to support a diverse student body and to enrich the lives of all students by expanding their cultural horizons
- to safeguard the rights and to promote the responsibility of all students
- to offer academic and personal counseling
- to address matters of misconduct in a just, compassionate, yet firm manner
- to seek student opinion and be accessible to students
- to provide outlets for co-curricular activities through clubs and organizations
- to assist parents in understanding the Colby experience
- to develop and support student leaders
- to assist students and families in times of crisis
