Dean of Students Staff Jim Terhune is the vice president for student affairs and dean of students (Eustis 308, 207-859-4780, jterhune@colby.edu) and, along with his associates in the dean’s office, health center, counseling center, and chaplains office, is eager to see every Colby student succeed academically, socially, and personally.
Barbara Moore, assistant vice president of student affairs and senior associate dean (Eustis 203C, 207-859-4255, bemoore@colby.edu), deals with advising and other academic issues, assists first-year students, supervises the tutoring program, and coordinates the First Class and C2IT orientation programs. Paul E. Johnston, senior associate dean (Eustis 210E, 207-859-4261, pejohnst@colby.edu), is responsible for the Student Conduct and Discipline program at the College. He also is responsible for overseeing residence hall and dining hall renovations. Sue McDougal, associate dean (Eustis 210B, 207-859-4263, smmcdoug@colby.edu), is responsible for international affairs, the implementation and updating of SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), and immigration requirements for F-1 and J-1 students and faculty. She oversees and advises the ESL (English as a Second Language) students, the International Club, and the host family program, along with other international student programs. She provides academic and social support to international students and language assistants. Joseph Atkins, assistant dean (Eustis 210D, 207-859-4253, jeatkins@colby.edu), serves as the mentor to Posse students. Colby is affiliated with the Posse program, which helps identify outstanding student leaders from the New York City area. As a member of the dean’s office, he provides academic, social, and personal counseling to all students, particularly, students affiliated with the Posse New York City Program. He also coordinates services for students with learning differences, and the senior book recommendations brochure. Regina Ouimette, administrative secretary (Eustis 308, 207-859-4780, rmouimet@colby.edu), provides secretarial support for the vice president for student affairs/dean of students. She coordinates committee materials (College Affairs Committee, Cotter Building Committee, Dean of Students staff meetings, NESCAC Deans Retreats, New England Deans Conference, and more), reviews and brings departmental budgets to the attention of the dean. She also maintains the daily schedule of and coordinates travel for the vice president/dean of students.Deb Thurston, secretary (Eustis 203B, 207-859-4250, dbthurst@colby.edu), provides primary support for Academic Affairs and Multicultural Affairs. She provides secretarial support to the Language Modification Committee and the Committee on Academic Standing. She distributes learning differences memos and academic warning letters. She also coordinates all summer mailings. Cindy Vassey, secretary (Eustis 210C, 207-859-4252, cavassey@colby.edu), provides primary support for International Affairs and Student Conduct and Discipline. She also collects changes and updates the student handbook. She mails the Dean's List cards each semester. |
