Emergencies
Students should go to the emergency room for emergencies or call Security at 207-859-5911. If a student’s private insurance does not consider his or her condition to be a true emergency, the emergency room visit may not be covered by the student’s plan.

Colby’s Garrison-Foster Health Center, the only accredited college health center in Maine, is staffed around the clock while school is in session. Its staff of medical professionals is qualified to care for students in the event of most illnesses or accidents. Sports medicine, alcohol and drug counseling, and psychological counseling are also available by appointment.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the health center’s services, most of which are offered at no additional charge. Materials delineating the services are distributed to new students during Orientation, are available in the health center, and are included on the Health Services Web site. Health center practitioners and nurses do not routinely write notes or make phone calls to excuse students from class.
