Identification Cards/ColbyCards The ColbyCard is the official Colby identification card. All students, faculty, and staff should carry the card for identification. The ColbyCard features a digitized photo, proximity core for door access, and a magnetic stripe for meal plan access and convenience purchases. Please note that there is no limit to the amount which students may carry in their card account but it is the students responsibility to contact the card office to disable their card if misplaced or lost. It is advised to apply funds as needed and replenish as necessary at any of the three Cash to Card Account locations on campus. If the card is lost or misplaced, any funds spent prior to the card office notification/disabling cannot be retrieved. The College will provide students with their first ColbyCard free of charge. Replacement of lost or damaged cards is subject to a $20 fee. The cards magnetic stripe give students a convenient way to make purchases on campus. Students may use their ColbyCard for the following services: • copy machines Students can add cash to their card accounts at our Cash Management Centers located in Roberts, Miller Library, and Cotter Union. Students with questions about the ColbyCard system can stop by the ColbyCard office located on the first floor of the Garrison-Foster (health center) Building. The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or can be reached by calling ext. 4130 (off-campus 859-4130).• laundry machines in all residence halls • beverage and snack vending machines • the Spa • the CoffeeCart at Miller Library • Colby Seaverns Bookstore • Cotter Union post office • Garrison-Foster Health Center ColbyCards are issued when students arrive on campus. The replacement charge for lost cards is $20. Loss of ColbyCards should be reported immediately to the ColbyCard office in Garrison-Foster so that they can be deactivated. After hours contact the Security Office. Students should carry their ColbyCard with them at all times as they will be required to display or surrender their card upon legitimate demand (e.g., by a faculty member, administrator, security officer, or hall staff) in order that proper identification may be established. Failure to comply and/or the reporting of a false identity are considered serious offenses that will merit appropriate disciplinary response from the College. The ColbyCard also serves as a “key” to access campus buildings. All residence halls are locked 24 hours per day. The ColbyCard allows access from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. to halls other than the one to which students have been assigned. Weekend hours are extended until 1 a.m. The Alfond Apartment Complex is accessible only to seniors. For additional information on ColbyCard use go to www.colby.edu/business/colbycard. A mandatory fine of no less than $50 will be levied for loaning or other improper use of identification cards; payment may be required before the card is returned to the student to whom it was originally issued (other penalties may also result). ID cards must be shown to gain entrance to meals in the dining halls. Possession of false identification is a violation of state law and will also result in a minimum $50 fine. Falsified identification cards that are confiscated will be returned to the appropriate state for disposition. |
