The Basics: What You Need To Know

  • Women, men, and people of all gender and sexual identities can be victims of sexual assault, harassment and/or other sexual misconduct
  • Women, men, and people of all gender and sexual identities can be perpetrators of sexual assault, harassment and/or other sexual misconduct
  • Sexual assault, harassment and/or other sexual misconduct can occur in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships.
  • Active, mutual consent is an essential component to legal sexual contact between individuals.
  • Consent may be withdrawn by either party at any time prior to or during sexual contact.
  • Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, compromise clear communication, and your ability to give or receive consent.
  • Colby policies prohibit sexual assault, harassment, and other sexual misconduct and offer personal and medical support as well as guidance and disciplinary recourse for victims.
    • Students who may have been victims of, witnesses to, or have direct information about instances of sexual assault, harassment, or other sexual misconduct are urged to:
    • Report the incident to the Dean of Students Office, Campus Security, and/or local law enforcement
