Colby offers students a wide range of athletic opportunities, whether it’s on a competitive varsity team, an intramural team, a club that plays against other colleges and universities, or as an individual interested in outdoor recreation. At the varsity level, Colby is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), which holds that member schools are “committed first and foremost to academic excellence and believe that athletic excellence supports the educational mission.”

More than one third of Colby students participate on one or more of 32 varsity teams, most of which compete in Division III of the NCAA. The apline & nordic ski teams compete in Division I of the NCAA.  Varsity teams include baseball, basketball, crew, cross-country, field hockey, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, squash, nordic and alpine skiing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball. Many more students join one of Colby’s club sports, which include badminton, Colby Equestrians, cycling, fencing, men’s rugby, men’s volleyball, sailing, ultimate Frisbee, water polo, women’s rugby, and the woodsmen’s team.
