Colby College Museum of Art
The Colby College Museum of Art, founded in 1959, features the Lunder Wing, the Paul J. Schupf Wing for the Works of Alex Katz, and the Jetté and Davis galleries. The museum boasts a significant permanent collection, including outstanding American art from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Works from the permanent collection, including the John Marin Collection and the Alex Katz Collection, are exhibited along with temporary loan exhibitions. A major Richard Serra sculpture, 4-5-6, welcomes visitors in the Paul J. Schupf Sculpture Court at the museum’s entrance. Every other spring semester the Joan Whitney Payson Collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Art is on view. One-person or group shows by nationally recognized artists are displayed frequently. A resource for art classes of every period and focus, the museum also exhibits faculty works and in the spring presents two student art shows.
