Off-Campus Recreational Facilities The Outing Club Cabin and Grounds on Great Pond and the Colby-Hume Center are wonderful assets. A goal of the college is make both locations accessible to all members of the Colby community. These facilities are open for recreational use by students, staff, and faculty. The Colby Security Department does not patrol either of these facilities. All use in these locations is at "the users" own risk. the use of PFD's (Personal Flotation Devices) is strongly recommended for all water-based activities. The Outing Club Cabin and Grounds are officially designated as a substance-free space per the club constitution. Keys to the outing club cabin can be checked out at the office of student activities during normal office hours (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) Monday - Friday. Requests for keys can be made to the Assistant Director of Campus Life and Director Outdoor Safety via e-mail at anytime. A simple event form will need to be filled out with all participants listed and each person will execute a liability waiver before accessing the cabin or grounds. Requests for the Colby-Hume Center should go through the Scheduling Office. The camp on Great Pond is under the jurisdiction of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department (1-800-452-1930), and the Colby-Hume Center is under the jurisdiction of the Oakland Police Department (911 or 207-465-2202). The Maine State Police can be reached by calling 1-800-452-4664. If the police must be contacted while using one of the recreational facilities, students also should notify the Colby Department of Security. |
